CPU

This is also called the Central Processing Unit or a microprocessor. This component is the "brain" of your computer. The CPU is made up of thousands transistors, and each of these transistors receive an amount of inputs and produces outputs. The CPU is like a little chip that is located on the motherboard. Without a CPU there is no computer because this is what processes all the codes and information.

A CPU has many components in it also, some are data bus, Math co-processor, memory controller and many more!

Top companies that manufacture CPU's ~

  • American Micro Devices (AMD)
  • Intel
  • IBM
  • Motorola
  • Via Technologies
  • Transmeta

The average cost for a CPU depends on what type you need and what type you are looking for. It also depends on the speed.

Measuring Speeds:

Bit: A bit is the smallest unit of computer memory, it can come in the value of either 0 or 1. The amount of bits in a CPU is often expressed in multiples of 8. The latest CPU's have about 64 bits. This is also the (MB or GB).

Clock cycles: This is the speed of the processor. The shorter the clock cycle, the faster the processor. This is measured in megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (GHz). Average computers have ~1.7GHz.

Core: The core is the unit that reads an instruction to perform a certain action. Everything you do on a computer requires this. Almost all computers today have a dual-core or quad-core processor, meaning that its has more than one separate core that processes information. Having more cores does not mean your computer has more speed, but it merely means that your computer can process rapidly!

CPU Price Range ~

When you are buying a new CPU the price mainly depends on what type of CPU you are looking for and why you are using your computer. For example, if you are a business person and you are using the computer for calculations, you will look for a computer with shorter clock cycles, so it can process your information more quickly. For example: 6-5MB would be around $70-$90.

 Motherboard

Also referred to as the mb, mainboard, mobo, and baseboard. This is like the "back bone" of the computer.  The motherboard connects all parts of the computer together and makes it function. It has the CPU, RAM, expansion slots, heat sinks, power supply, and many more! Also, companies have different sizes of motherboards, which is called the form factor, so if you are buying a new components for the motherboard, make sure that all the parts are compatible and fits with whatever model that you own.

Watch the video below for more details... !

The motherboard has everything and joins everything to make the whole computer work. As said earlier, it includes the CPU, the RAM and many more. These parts are connected to little chips that are on the motherboard. These chips are the ones that allow the CPU to connect and communicate with other parts of the computer, and to exchange data with the system (RAM) and other output devices. This chip set is also organizes how much memory can be added to the motherboard. Therefore, when you are looking for a motherboard, look out for the chips!

Top Companies that Manufacture Motherboards ~

  • Gigabyte Technology
  • EVGA
  • Intel
  • Asus
  • MSI
  • ABIT

 Price Range for Motherboards ~

This price depends on how many slots you want and the different components you might want to add to your motherboard. Also, the price depends on the form factor. The most you would pay is up to ~$200.

 Power Supply

This is also the PS and also sometimes abbreviated as PSU (Power Supply Unit). This is the component in the computer that gives off power to the other components. This is like a rectangular box with fans. The back is connected to a wire that is plugged in to a electrical socket and the front is connected with other cords to the motherboard. The power supply converts volts into a steady flow that the computer can use. The Power supply is good depending on how much watts it generates. Since each computer part needs a certain amount of power to function, it is important to buy a power supply that can provide the correct amount of power!

As stated earlier, the Power Supply is much more productive with the amount of watts it uses and the power it provides for the other parts of the computer.

Top Companies that Manufacture the Power Supply ~

  • Antec
  • Seasonic
  • Silverstone
  • Gigabyte Technology

Price Range for the Power Supply ~

This is based on how big the psu is and how much watts you need. The price ranges from the lowest ~$30- $40.
